Sat~3~--~Sun~4 Aug~20241ABeginners Touring Instructional. Gary Gow Memorial Trip. This is an introductory tour specifically aimed at beginners. The trip is an introduction to the huts experience and the things that go boomp in the night. It is also an introduction to the club's Four Mile connection, and tuition is provided in the skills needed for touring. Garry Gow was a member who took a particular interest in the hut, regarding it as an important part of his life. If insufficient snow, then Plan B. Map: Cabramurra 1:25,000.
Mon~5~--~Thu~22 Aug~20242BPretty Plain (sometime between early & mid August)5 Day TourExact date not set yet. In and out via Bourkes Gorge FT, then Pretty Plain Hut - Grey Mare Hut - Dershko’s Hut - Pretty Plain Hut. To ski from Pretty Plain must be the Holy Grail of cross country skiing. However, this trip will go ahead only if there is snow on Pretty Plain, and for this reason an exact date has not been set. Participants will have to be prepared to go when the snow falls. Register your interest with the coordinator. The coordinator expects to be flying over Pretty Plain regularly during this period, to gauge snow level.
Fri~9~--~Sun~11 Aug~2024Beginners/Intermediate Instructional Weekend.Tuition in skiing technique for those a little more advanced beyond beginner level.
Sat~24~--~Wed~28 Aug~20242BWomens Snow Camp, ex Guthegabase camp in snow tents, then day tripsWomens only multiday snow camp. Must be able to ski in and out with full camping gear. Must bring poo bags or poo tube. Day ski trips on Main Range appropriate to weather and interests. Earlier exit possible for those with independent ski touring skills. Leaders - Nyrie (Telemark) and Junko (AT)
Mon~26~--~Sat~31 Aug~20242B - 3CVictorian AlpsLooking for expressions of interest in a 4 to 5 day multi-day overnight ski trip in the Victorian alps in the week after the Kangaroo Hoppet. Destinations will depend on snow and weather but could be any or a combination of the following - Mt Bogong, Mt Fainter area, Bogong high plains, Mt Loch and Mt Feathertop. Participants need to be fit and experienced with suitable ski equipment to suit the terrain and snow conditions. For example, if we went to Mt Bogong, then AT or Telemark Equipment (with ski crampons/skins) will be necessary. We'd base camp near Cleve Cole Hut and do some day excursion from there. Details to be firmed up in the week before the trip. Meetup/Car Camp will be in Victoria (eg Mt Beauty or Harrietville) on the evening of 25/8 before setting out on 26/8. Maps: Various - Falls Ck Nth 1:25K, Falls Ck Sth 1:25K, Feathertop Nth, Feathertop Sth, Mitta Mitta Sth. Participant limit - 6. Thu~5~--~Sun~8 Sep~20242BMain Range Tour4 Days Touring & BasecampingThis tour is to experience a mix of covering terrain and a basecamp component. Metal-edged touring skis are preferred. If you only have alpine touring or telemark skis then you will require a higher degree of physical fitness to keep up. The exact route will be dependent on snow coverage and conditions, weather, and the participants. My idea is to head out from Thredbo towards the country to the west of Kosciusko which is usually too far to reach in a day trip from Charlottes Pass. We could then spend the next day skiing from the tents. After this, move towards Twynam and set up another base camp before heading back to Thredbo.
Sun~15~--~Sun~29 Sep~2024Suit yourselfLodge-based Day Trips from Charlotte PassDay TripsEnjoy the luxury of dry boots, skiing from the door, day trips to places like Lake Cootapatamba, Mt Kosciuszko, Mt Townsend, Mt Lee, Mt Carruthers, Mt Twynam, Watsons Crags, Blue Lake, Club Lake, Mt Stilwell, Twin Valleys, etc, or sharpen up your teles on the lifts. (Lift operation at Charlotte Pass depends on snow cover.) Experience the outrageously cooperative spring snow and choose the grade to suit yourself. Cost for the week $770 for Southern Alps Ski Club (SASC) members and $952 for SASC non-members, fully catered. Great value for full board. You may be able to come for less than the full week, cost pro-rata. 50% deposit required on booking and should be paid early as it is likely the lodge will be full for both weeks. There is a wide variety of day trip choices available, you can vary the grade to suit yourself. See Pygmy Possum Booking information in Notes.
